Aku ~ Chairil Anwar

A great piece from Chairil Anwar, it just all about it. I used to read it ages ago.

The famous pix of Anwar

AKU

Kalau sampai waktuku
Ku mau tak seorang kan merayu
Tidak juga kau

Tak perlu sedu sedan itu

Aku ini binatang jalang
Dari kumpulannya terbuang

Biar peluru menembus kulitku
Aku tetap meradang menerjang

Luka dan bisa kubawa berlari

Berlari
Hingga hilang pedih peri

Dan aku akan lebih tidak perduli

Aku mau hidup seribu tahun lagi

For those who never heard of him, he was the great poet from this part of the world. Perhaps, he is 'Rabindranath Tagore' of Indonesia, in term of position and acknowledgment regarded by Indonesians and Malaysians for as long as the malay poetry is concerned.

'Smoking-Free' pix of Anwar
Born in 1922, he died in young age of 27 years.

Here's the original book in which the above poem included, "Deru Campur Debu" (Burr  and Dust ? - anybody please improve the translation of the book title)

I love every bit of the poem, except for the last sentence. A thousand years? Man, that's way too long. Your bet, sometime life can be too complicated. Can't handle the hell load of mess even for three days, let alone for a thousand years.
