Early Kadayan Songs, 1914

Written by Arimi Sidek

These are the oldest Kadayan songs ever recorded properly, as what I found so far. Unfortunately, no lyrics available. According to Myers, he obtained several phonographic records of native songs, thirteen of which he had analyzed and presented in his paper.

Like other researchers in his time, Myers classified Kadayans as part of Klemantan ethnic group. In his own word. “Kadayans belong to the Klemantan group of Bornean Peoples; to this group also belong the Bakongs ..., the Long Kiputs ..., the Sehops ... and the Lepu Anna ...”

There are two Kadayan songs presented in the article. One he called as “Love” song and the other, “Boat” song.

I wish those who can read the notes will record the tones and send them back to kadayanuniverse.com in *.mp3 format, so we can share what the tones sound like.
